Paraguay-Japan: Penalty Kicks!

Much is said by non-soccer fans about a really boring 120 minute scoreless game. But when it comes to PKs, there’s not much in sports that rivals the intensities (Hockey’s shootout format included.) But Paraguay and Japan reversed the effects of a really lame scoreless draw with a dramatic ending. This is what World Cup fans like to see.
All of the kicks looked very smooth, except the one that missed. I’m not sure why coach Takeshi Okada put one of his defensemen in to take the show Komano has never scored a goal in International play. His body was off when he shot, and he drilled the crossbar. Certainly there are other scorers who have more experience putting the ball in the back of the net. It certainly was heartbreak for the Japanese.
So aside from Hockey, which instituted the shootout format a few years ago, is there another sport that rivals the excitement when it comes to finishing off a tied game? As for this round of 16 match, I certainly got a kick out of it, sotospeak.
